Awards and Challenges for the Beginning of Summer

Hi! I know, I know. I’ve been kind of lazy with all my stories lately. I was super busy with school, but now I got all schoolwork done and my graduation is only a matter of some bureaucracy! Yay! And now I have a couple of months before my work starts so I have plenty of time to write and do other creative projects. So for the last couple of weeks I’ve been doing just that, but as it turns out, just settling back home has been more work than I thought. I’ve tried to balance my time between the tons of creative projects I want to do. But I promise I’m back now, and that soon you’ll get some updates. And before this, some awards and a challenge:

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award! This was the first award I ever got, and it feels somehow extra special to get nominated for it again. This time the nomination came from the awesome Violincat, who is a very dedicated reader of mine, and who also has several stories I recommend checking out. Here’s the blog:

Our Different Paths

Thank you so much! Here is her Liebster-post.

And as a part of this award, I need to:

  1. Put the award on my blog.
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated me.
  3. Nominate 5 to 11 other blogs whom I feel deserve this award and have fewer than or equal to 300 followers (or 3000, or 1000, or something else depending on which rules are used).
  4. Answer the 11 questions that were asked.
  5. Then ask the people I nominate 11 questions.

This time I won’t be nominating anyone, but check out my first Liebster-post and other award posts:

Animal Award
Sunshine Blogger -Award
The Versatile Blogger -Award
Unique Blogger Award

And here are the questions:

  1. What’s the last song you’ve listened to?
Before by Riverside. Though as I’m writing this my playlist has been playing and I’m now listening to Perfect Life by Steven Wilson.
  2. Are you an early bird or a night owl?
More of a night owl, though I’m trying to fix my sleep schedule so hopefully I’ll become more of an early bird because I’ll need it for when my job starts.
  3. Name three of your favorite books?
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Hogfather by Terry Pratchett, and The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa. Also if graphic novels/comic books don’t count, then I’ll say Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett instead of the Life and Times (but in my mind comics do count :D)
  4. How old were you when you had your first crush?
I’ve never had a crush. I was seventeen when I started dating, though.
  5. Every single person you’ve ever had a crush on shows up at your place one day. What do you do?
I will probably have a calm evening alone. Maybe I’ll draw, play some computer games and/or read. 😀
  6. Craziest situation that ever happened to you?
Uh… I can’t think of any. I feel kinda boring.
  7. If you could change one thing about the world right now, what would it be?
I’d love it if people stopped hurting each other and the environment and found more productive, compassionate ways to deal with the world.
  8. What is your favorite thing to do after a stressful day?
Having a moment for myself, usually by either writing or reading or watching videos on a computer. Also sauna. Sauna is always good.
  9. What is your favorite saying?
Not a saying, probably, but a quote from some Discworld -books by (once again) Terry Pratchett:
Also if we want actual sayings, then I have a morbidly amused fondness for:
“Joka vanhoja muistelee, sitä tikulla silmään.” which is Finnish and roughly translates to: “Who thinks about the past should be poked in the eye with a stick”. Which REALLY means that it’s not good to get hung up on the past. Finns have a lot of bizarrely violent and/or vulgar, and often hilarious sayings.
  10. What was the best meal you’ve ever had?
I still remember a vegetarian curry I had in Salzburg very fondly. Though it’s hard to pick an actual favourite, really, since normally any time I go somewhere where people have actually put some effort into making a vegan meal makes me so happy that basically all vegan meals that have been made with care are the best.
  11. You’ve won an all-expenses-paid trip for a week for any place in the world. Where would you go?
Hmm… probably Australia, because I want to go there but it’s expensive. That or Guatemala to look at old Mayan ruins.

I was also nominated for One Lovely Blog -award by sweetnightingale, with whom I’ve been exchanging letters for the Pen Pal Project, and who is lovely and has epic fairytale-like stories on her blogs! Here is her award post, and here is her blog:

Simming with sweetnightingale – where you can also find links to her other blogs.

Thank you so much for this!

And the rules for this award are:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link.
  2. Post about the award
  3. 7 facts about yourself
  4. Nominate bloggers and notify them
  5. Give your readers good news.

So again, check out my previous award posts for many awesome nominees. As for seven facts… oooh, boy. I’m not interesting enough for seven facts, but I’ll try:

  1. My favourite music genres are progressive rock and progressive metal – which is probably not surprising considering the songs I just listed in the previous answers.
  2. I get very uncomfortable if I hear my writing read out loud, and I find it extremely difficult to read my own writing out loud to people. Luckily this hasn’t been required often.
  3. Despite the previous fact, I volunteered to be in our university’s theatre group’s script-writing team every year when I was a part of the theatre and had no problem with it. Maybe because it wasn’t just my writing, as there were others involved in it too. It was a lot of fun.
  4. Like many, many other Finns, I’ve been a huge Moomin -fan ever since I was little. My favourite character was Little My (and still is, though my favourites from the Moomins also include Snufkin and the Groke) and I was such a fan that at some point (when I was like… I don’t know, five or something) I always wanted to look angry in photos taken of me, since Little My always looks angry or angrily happy. Yes, I was a dork even back then.
  5. I know the basics of bookbinding. It’s a skill I’ve rarely needed, but one that I’m pretty proud of.
  6. I don’t like coffee as a drink, but I do like the smell and taste of coffee beans.
  7. I collect stones, though lately I haven’t been a very active collector. I like both natural stones and polished semiprecious stones.

The good news:

I’m back to writing more actively, as I said! Yayyyy! Also I’m getting married. ❤

And then we have the Handwriting Challenge, for which I was tagged by Thymeless and sweetnightingale.

Here are the rules:

  1. Write your name
  2. Write your blog’s name
  3. Write your favorite word and its definition
  4. Write something nice
  5. Write the name of your favorite song right now
  6. What are you writing with?
  7. Write a fun fact about yourself
  8. Write/draw your favorite emoticon
  9. Write a silly message
  10. Write who you’re tagging

And here are my scribbles:

(the word that gets cut off at the edge is luultavasti)

And there we go! I’m now working on the last edits to the next Fey -chapter, so I should get it done soon. Maybe even today! Or then tomorrow. Until then, have a nice day!

Some More Unique Blogger

Hello! I just got a nomination for this award from the awesome livinasimminlifewhose stories I have praised before but will again! Do check out her amazing stories and detailed worldbuilding on her blogs:
Kassiopeia Fullbright Mystery Series
Livin a Simmin’ life

Thank you so much for this!

The rules for this award are:

  1. Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  2. Answer the questions.
  3. In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate  8-13 people for the same award.
  4. Ask them 3 questions.

Here are the question this time:

  1. What is one of your biggest in-game pet peeves?
In the Sims 3, the attraction system. I hate it so much! It gets in the way and makes random Sims send stupid love letters and ask married people out on dates and just in general gets in the way. I’m okay with an attraction system being in the game, but it should have been WAY better implemented.

In TS4, I’m not feeling the emotion-system a lot of the time. It’s too easy to manipulate and the feelings change too easily. Also I kind of don’t like how it makes my Sims’ feelings so obvious – although yeah, there is still much room for interpretation.

  2. What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do in game or in a Sims story, but haven’t yet?
Have Tad in Tango speak Finnish. 😀 Because considering his overly formal way of speaking, he would sound SO creepy in Finnish because he’d speak formal, written Finnish and very, very few native speakers speak in a way that’s anything close to formal Finnish (unless they’re making a speech or something… or in my case, for example, get nervous or sarcastic). So I imagine he’d sound creepily hilarious. This has a couple of major problems, though: first of all, nearly none of my readers could understand what’s going on or why it’s funny, as they haven’t really been exposed to Finnish. And secondly, in a written medium people DO usually speak Finnish more or less formally, so this whole joke wouldn’t work. So this is a thing that’s probably going to just stay in my head. Sigh…

Other things I might put here would probably be too spoiler-y so I guess I’ll leave those a mystery. 🙂

  3. If you could live in any one of the Sims worlds (i.e. base game, expansion, or custom), which would it be and why?
I really like Riverview from TS3, though I already live in a place like that (only bigger and slightly more urban) so I guess I should be more creative with this. Well, San Myshuno from TS4 has a super nice design (those mosaics, man!), and I like its multicultural feel. I imagine it has  bunch of eco-shops and vegan food places for me too. Not to mention the flea market!

Okay, so there we go! I’ll try to get a Fey -chapter out soon. And start working on a new Tango -chapter and all. Have fun you guys! I wish you all the best!

Also check out my original award-post here.

More Uniqueness!

Hi! I got one more Unique Blogger Award nomination! I won’t repeat myself about what this award is about, but you can check my original award-post here.

This time the nomination is from the lovely Simsophonique, whose awesomely cute blog contains stories and CC and is definitely worth checking out! You can find it here:
Simsophonique & The Sims
and the award post is here.

Thank you so much, Simsophonique!

And now is the time for the questions and answers:

1) As a sims author, do you plan to publish your story as a real book?
As awesome as it would be, I think I’ll pass. I think my SimLit stories have their identity too firmly rooted to the Sims world. I’d have to do some serious tweaking before I’d publish them, at least. I’m writing some other projects that I’m planning to at least try to get published as physical books, though.

2) Do your friends and close relatives know about your story/legalicies? Do they read it ? What do they think of ?
I’ve lately become braver about showing my stories to my friends. Until recently I didn’t even tell them that I have stories published on the internet. But nowadays some of my friends know about my SimLit blogs and have even checked them out. My fiancé has also read almost all of the Chrysanthemum Tango that I’ve written so far. The feedback from them has always been positive. My fiancé has especially been helpful and asked some really thought-provoking questions about my story. Things like “If one of your anthropomorphic personifications created several human forms at the same time, how aware would they be of each other and what would it be like if those human forms met?” or “What would happen if Tad had his arm cut off?” 🙂 He’s awesome.

3) What is your best/worst part of your current stories / legalicies?
If I’m thinking about my creation process, I’d say that the best part is just getting my ideas into words and playing the game and discovering new things and getting new ideas through even really random things. I also love interacting with the lovely people on the forums and in the WordPress comments. The worst/most difficult part is struggling with my somewhat laggy game at times and finding the right ways to get my screenshots looking like my mind says they should look like. :/ And if I’m thinking about the finished chapters, well, I think my strongest writing happens when I’m delving into the characters and developing them and their relationships. However, I’m not the greatest at plotting and I usually start overthinking it way too much. I’m also not the most confident about my more villainous characters. I like writing morally ambiguous and crooked characters, but I always feel like they end up lacking direction and proper plans.

Well, that’s it for now. I’m staying on schedule with my NaNo, and I’m also planning my next Fey -chapter. I’m also going to publish a new Tango chapter… well, pretty much right now! I’ll go edit some pics for it and then get to putting it together. Bye for now, and have a lovely time!

Unique Blogger Award

Hiya! I was again nominated for an award! This time by CathyTea and livinasimminlife! I’m so honoured! This time I posted the award-post on Chrysanthemum Tango, so you can check it out there:

Unique Blogger Award

Also I’m currently at the editing stage of the next Fey -chapter, and all the pics have been taken and edited. And during the weekend I have more time to focus on the text so I’ll try to get the chapter out around Monday, or even sooner.

So see you soon and have a nice day!

The Versatile Blogger Award

I was nominated for this nice award by the awesome Senna, who writes The Racket-Rotter Chronicles (award post here). If you haven’t checked out that story yet, now’s a great time to do so since it was just finished! And it’s an amazing blend of drama, humour, romance, scifi/fantasy and horror!

Thank you again, Senna!

And here are the rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. Share the award on your blog
  3. Share seven random facts about yourself
  4. Tag 10 bloggers with less than 1000 followers and let them know they have been nominated

So then, facts…

  1. Two of my (almost one hundred) dreadlocks are named; they are Bob and Diego. Some other locks may get temporary names depending on my mood.
  2. My skin is sun-sensitive, so I’m definitely not the sunbathing type.
  3. My favourite character in anything ever is Scrooge McDuck (as written by Carl Barks and Don Rosa).
  4. I’m left-handed.
  5. My first name has a double consonant and a double vowel – which is pretty common in Finnish but apparently very difficult for English-speakers to remember, considering my name was constantly misspelled while I lived in Ireland. Well, that’s the beauty of diverse languages. 🙂
  6. I am very obviously a cat-person (but I love dogs too… and well, pretty much all animals, really).
  7. My favourite article of clothing is an over-sized, striped wool hoodie I found in a second-hand store for 2,50 € (2,81 USD). It has kept me warm for years now. I call it James.

And again, I don’t have enough new reads to nominate  full ten, so check out my other blog posts on awards to see some of the people and blogs I think definitely deserve all the awards they get: Liebster Award, Animal Award, and Sunshine Blogger Award.

Also some new reads I’d like to nominate:

Livin’ A Simmin’ Life by livinasimminlife
This blog contains several stories, all with guaranteed quality writing and amazing world-building. I love how some of the stories intertwine with one another and create a world that feels like it’s truly alive

Can You Hear the Violins? by Thymeless
A recently started but immediately very promising Ambrosia-challenge story with an intriguing premise, good writing, and really likable and fun characters! I’m so interested to see where this story is going!

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll hopefully be back soon with some updates! Have a lovely time!

Sunshine and Updates

Hi! Both of my Sims -blogs were nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I’m so happy! I posted the award post on the Chrysanthemum Tango -side of things this time for balance’s sake. You can check the post here.

Also I figured this would be a good opportunity to tell you what’s going on with Fey. I’ve done a rough outline on the next story arc, but it still needs a lot of adjusting. I’ve also done some renovating in the Farley-Monsoon house and tweaking my characters’ appearances a bit, since the next story arc is going to take place after a 1½-year time skip.

I’ve been thinking I’d at least start by writing the next chapter that’s supposed to mostly just showcase how the family’s life has changed during that time skip, and start building on the plot threads from there. So I’ve definitely not abandoned this story.

I’ll hopefully see you soon with another Fey –update. Have a nice time, everyone!

Animal Awards Everywhere!

EDIT: Renamed this the Animal Award -post because I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. Thanks, ixot for pointing that out.

EDIT EDIT: Can also be a Patronus Award, but I’ll keep it the Animal Award now. Also I got yet another nomination from The Parker Legacy! Thank you! I’ll add your name to the list of people who nominated… right now!

So I’ve been really tired lately, and when the first message of this award dropped into my inbox I was like: “Eeeeeeeeeeh, wut? Cool I guess.” But then I got my brain working better and I am super happy and honoured! And then some other nominations for this award were sent my way and now I’m just… confused and happy. Because wow, that’s a lot of awards. All for me? I didn’t expect this. But like I said, I’m now super extra special happy and honoured! And slowly getting my sleeping rhythm back to normal (note to self: editing old writings should NOT be done when the time to go to sleep is near).

So thank you all these wonderful people who nominated my stories for this award (if I’ve missed someone, then give me a shout and I’ll add my thanks to you here). Do check out these awesome bloggers if you’re feeling like finding some good reads:

The people who nominated The Fey of Life:

Violincat from Sims Stories of Violincat – Here you can find two story-driven SimLit stories. I’ve only recently started reading them, but they are nicely quirky and cosy and have a very approachable writing style.

Moon in Capricorn from The Jonathan Chronicles – This is a story-driven SimLit story with very nice writing and believable characters.

blamsart from Light the Way to Heaven – This is a legacy story with more than a touch of magic.

Derubelle from Derubelle’s Sims Stories – Here you can find both a well-written, more story-driven SimLit story as well as some challenges!

The Parker Legacy from The Parker Family – This legacy story has just started, so if you’re looking for a new legacy to follow, then this could be it!

The people who nominated The Chrysanthemum Tango:

ADWilson from Have I Got a Story for You! – Here you can find a randomacy that looks like a lot of fun!

Senna from The Racket-Rotter Chronicles – This is a very nicely written text-only story about Twinbrook’s townies.

So again, thank you all and congratulations on your own awards!

The Patronus/Animal Blog Award Acceptance Rules:

1.) Thank the blogger who nominated you, and link back to their page.

2.) Post the award picture on your blog.

3.) Write a short paragraph about yourself and what your blog means to you.

4.) If you could be any animal, what would it be?

5.) Pick and notify ten nominees.

Well, the 1) and 2) are done, so I should say a little bit about me next… Ooookay.

I’m a young adult from the frozen wasteland known as Finland… though in reality we have our four seasons and right now it’s really summery here. And this isn’t a wasteland, really, but rather a country covered with forests and lakes. So never mind. I love a lot of things, such as my family, fiancé, and friends. I also love arts, martial arts, reading, writing, nature, tea, the feel of grass under my bare feet, striving to be a responsible consumer, thinking about random and not so random things, peace and quiet, and darkly beautiful and beautifully dark things. Among other stuff. I’m rather cynical, but it’s balanced out by my love for the world, I guess. So yeah, I’m just a human-shaped thing that likes to create stuff and think.

I’ve written a few blogs for other reasons too, but my SimLit blogs are hands-down the most involved. These blogs are a way for me to express myself and to appreciate the ideas the Sims series gives me. I’ve been as Simmer since the Sims 1 was a thing and even though I’ve had my longer breaks from these games, I’ve never really stopped. It’s one of my favourite game series ever (though not the absolute favourite, sorry Sims. 🙂 That honour goes to the original Thief -series). SimLit is not the only thing I write, and writing it is equally amazing to writing something else I can express myself through, but to me the Sims game brings its own flavour to writing, and I like that. This blog is also a place for me to talk to lovely people and to meet more of them. I’ve also found a lot of really good reads through getting involved with the Sims community again. So these blogs definitely have a special place in my heart.

And then, My animal:

I did some tests just for fun because I couldn’t decide, but they all gave me a different answer and none of the really clicked so I went back to thinking up what I myself would really want to be. So at first I thought it would be obvious that I’d say CAT! Because cats are awesome and independent and graceful, and kind of mean but still so goofy and cuddly. But I don’t know… I don’t think I’m awesome enough to deserve the form of a cat. Plus cats are carnivorous and I’m a no animal products kind of person… Though if I were a wild cat I could just hunt all of my food… hmmm… I could also go for one of my other extra favourites and say FOX! Because well, foxes are lovely and playful and they’re also omnivores so I could eat berries and all that good stuff too. So a fox or a cat, then. Or maybe a lynx. Though I’m not awesome enough for any of those, but let’s pretend. 🙂

And then, nomination time… If you want to see more praise to other wonderful writers, you can also check out my Liebster Award post. I tried to pick blogs I haven’t nominated already, and hey, I didn’t have to go on an epic quest to find new reads for these nominations! I see I have been a more active reader lately. I’m sure these people are already swimming in awards, but who cares? These people are awesome and amazing and I can take this opportunity to say that again!

My nominees (in alphabetical order):

CathyTea’s SimLit Anthology by CathyTea – So many well-written stories here! And it’s also such a warm, welcoming place with a lovely atmosphere and nice visuals.

Dust to Dust by CitizenErased14 – Last time I nominated her other story, (Para)Normal Neighborhood, so it’s time to give this novel-length, beautiful and at times tragic story some love from me too.

Eight Cicadas by Trip – a dark, intriguing immortal dynasty -based story with scifi, a bit of magic, and amazing screenshots as well as very enjoyable writing.

Ironbound by Munterbacon – A scifi-fantasy story with a truly rich and interesting world as well as amazing visuals.

Last I Saw was Yellow by zyphlid – This story hasn’t had many chapters yet, but it has such a promising start! It’s an intriguing film noir -style detective story with a nicely unique visual style.

Mistakes by Niura – Here you can find a couple of stories, including a detective series with likable characters and interesting plots. The screenshots also have this nice style reminiscent of comic books.

Raerei’s Fortress by raerei – Tons of different stories in this one, all written with raerei’s beautiful style. I’m sure there’s something for almost everyone here.

The Krazy Crazy Life of Kass by livinasimminlife – here you can find the stories of Kass Fullbright. Her life is filled with mystery, character development, and exciting twists and turns.

The Talented by NotJustaBook – A really interesting and amazingly shot start to a fantasy story to be found here. There aren’t that many chapters yet, but I’m eagerly waiting for more.

Undead with Benefits by Pronterus – A funny vampire/crime story that makes even me, a person who normally finds vampires uninteresting, invested in the vampire world!

Congrats to all of you, and I hope everyone is having a good time!
